God, Help Me to Live for You Only! (Prayer Journal 234)

Holy Father, in Jesus' name, I waste too much time and give too much attention to things that do not matter and distract me from You. You are all that I need. Without You nothing else matters for nothing else would exist. I am blown away by the fact that You chose me to be Yours and called me to partner with You in Your purpose.

Lord, like Robert Robinson wrote in the classic hymn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing", I am prone to wander without any real rhyme or reason. I keep getting involved in civilian affairs when I have been adopted in Your royal family and commissioned in Your army. At times I am so easily lulled to sleep and led astray. I am so tired of being a hypocrite with lips near You while my heart is far from You. I often feign love for You before people while failing to demonstrate it by being obedient to You.

Please help me not to bring disgrace, reproach, or shame to Your name. I know the desires that I have for this fallen world and the lack of reverence that I often have for You, the Holy One. No one else may know it but You do, and You see it all. Please awaken me from my slumber. Give me Your spiritual smelling salts. Do let me aimlessly drift away from You. I confess that I love this world too much and that is evil. For this world is hostile towards You. I want to do me and my thing rather than You and Your will. That is the very thing that got lucifer, the devil, kicked out of heaven, cast down to the earth, and hell to be prepared for he and a third of the angels.

You grace is absolutely amazing. For I have done what the devil did and yet You have saved me from Your wrath and given me eternal life. Forgive me for the worship of idols and spiritual adultery. You are a jealous God and You have every right to be. You are my Creator and Redeemer. Yet I keep giving myself back to things that enslaved me and desired to destroy my life.

Thank You for the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. I no longer have any obligation to the flesh. Help me to yield to the Spirit and produce His fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. I am not my own to do whatever I want. I am Yours and I belong to You. For You have purchased me at a high price with the precious blood of Jesus.

I have failed to live a life wholly devoted to You. I have wasted breath, opportunities, relationships, resources, time, and talents entrusted to me by You. I have not been all that intentional in following Jesus and yielding to Your Holy Spirit. Meet me here and grant me a fresh encounter with Your presence that is undeniable. Come Holy Spirit! Minister to, in, and through me in a manner that puts Jesus on display to the glory of God the Father. Bring me to the end of me so that I live because Jesus in alive in me. Amen!!!
